Kashmir, known as “The paradise on earth,” boasts the Kashmir Great Lakes Trek, one of India’s most beautiful treks. Many lakes on this trek are named after Hindu gods and come with fascinating origin stories. The most spectacular lakes are Gangabal, Vishansar, Krishnasar, and Gadsar. The KGL trek spans 68-75 km, starting from Sonamarg, reaching its highest point at Gadsar Pass at 13,750 feet, and concluding at Naranag at 7,450 feet.

Grade: Moderate-Difficult
Beginners can enroll if they have sufficient fitness. You should be able to run at least 5kms in 34 minutes. People with existing health problems like high BP, asthma, epilepsy, arthritis, recent injury etc. are not allowed to enroll.

  • Transportation from Srinagar to Sonamarg and from Naranag to Srinagar
  • All Meals (vegetarian/egg) from dinner on Day 1 to breakfast on Day 7 Naranag

Things to be carried - Compulsory
  • ID Proof with 3 photocopies; 3 passport size photographs
  • Windproof jackets & other warm clothes like thermals, winter caps etc.
  • Good trekking shoes. Extra pair of sleeper or sandal
  • Umbrella. (It can drizzle anytime in mountains)
  • At least two personal reusable water bottles all the time during trip
  • Carry one small bag to carry necessary things while roaming in daytime

Itinerary

Day 1:

Drive from Srinagar to Shitkadi (85 km – 3 hrs)
Stay in tent/homestay.

Day 2:

Trek from Shitkadi to Nichnai (11 km – 7 hrs)
Altitude: 7,700 ft. to 11,480 ft.

Day 3:

Nichnai to Vishansar lake via Nichnai pass (12km – 7 hrs)
Altitude: 11,500 ft to 12,000 ft via 13100 ft.

Day 4:

Vishansar to Gadsar lake via Gadsar pass (14 km – 9 hrs)
Altitude: 12,000ft to 12,000ft via 13,750ft 14 kms trek approx 8/9 hrs.
Gadsar pass is the highest point of the trek

Day 5:

Trek to Myangandhop via Satsar (10 km – 6 hrs)
Altitude: 12,000 ft to 12,000 ft.

Day 6:

Satsar to Gangabal twin lakes via Zaj pass
Altitude: 12,000 ft to 11,500 ft. via 13400ft.

Day 7:

Trek to Naranag (13 km-7hrs)
Drive to srinagar (3 hours)
Altitude: 11,500 ft to 7,450 ft.
The trail will pass through pine tree forests. After the 65 kms drive, you will reach Srinagar by 7pm.

Day 8:

Buffer day for completing the Kashmir Great Lakes trek.
For all your travel plans include a buffer day to accommodate bad weather on the trek/political instability. If the buffer day is used, you will have to pay INR 2,500 per day.

I'm a solo female traveller, will this be safe for me?

There are many female travelers who travel with us solo. In fact, in most of our trips, almost 75% of the travelers are women. We give utmost priority to women’s safety during our trips. Our trip leaders ensure everyone feels comfortable at all times during the trip. 

What is cancellation policy?

  • If cancellation is done prior to 30 days; 80% will be refunded
  • If cancellation is done within 30 days to trek 50% will be refunded
  • No refund for cancellation in last one week to the trek

What is the group size?

We usually take only 10-15 participants per batch to ensure we have a smaller group where everyone gets the best service.
